Why Are Musical Instruments So Expensive?

0

They are finely crafted and frequently from expensive materials. I think of my musical instruments as tools. I have about $4,000 tied up in my Viola. I used it to make a living. My brother was an auto mechanic. his tools cost him close to $30,000. He says I got off cheap. Cheaper oboes can and have been made but they didn’t work very well, and definitely could not be used by an advanced student or professional. Very few quality musical instruments can be made by machine. A quality oboe might take as long as a month to make. If the maker got $1,500 for doing it he could make $18,000 a year at best. that is not good pay for proffesional.
