Why are paper bags better for the environment than plastic bags?
Paper bags bio-degrade. That means they turn into compost which other plants can use for plant-food and eventually, who knows they end up being part of another tree that can be cut down and turned into paper to make another bag. This is a natural process of re-cycling. Plastic bags are mostly made from oil. In millions of years they may have broken down enough to become something else, but in the meantime they are plastic which cant be absorbed by plants or eaten by animals. Many of them get into the sea where they bob about and some sea creatures think they are jelly fish and try to eat them and they choke or suffocate. Plastic bags can get clogged into drains and cause flooding. It is possible to make bio-degradable plastic bags and these are becoming much more common. If you make sure that the plastic bags you use are degradable you can have the advantages of a plastic bag which is waterproof and often stronger than a paper bag, but you will know that it will degrade in a few years
They biodegrade faster. Plastic is made from oils, which biodegrade slowly, but paper bags are made from paper, which biodegrades fast. Paper was discovered naturally, in France, but plastic was made by humans artificially (paper is made artificially too) Also, if you biodegrade faster, that means you pose less a threat to wildlife, take up less space, and also become a fertilizer.
Most grocery paper bags will hold more items and weight than most grocery plastic bags. At the onset, use of paper bags reduces the total number of bags used. Paper bags aren’t as great for carrying lunch on a rainy day however. Many people re-use paper bags in their paper recycling processes. It certainly makes sense to “completely use” (or reuse) an item rather than purchasing special use products like paper bags simply to contain recyclables. – Better to reuse and already used bag. Some folks talk of paper bags decomposing faster than plastic bags and a desire for decomposable plastic bags…..I think that a stronger and more accurate argument for paper over any type of plastic bags lies within the components that make paper versus those that make plastic. In general, paper that is not coated with plastic, metal, or other components is comprised of far less chemically toxic substances than the components that comprise plastics. Not only are the components of paper less toxic than th
paper biodegradable plastic non-biodegradable which mean the environment can ‘handle’ paper easily ( throw a paper at ur backyard and its gone in a short period) throw a plastic and u can see it for couple of month/ years but to neutralized and fertile the soil it takes thousand of years as a result of the chemical released (decomposition) from the plastics
