why are parents having a lack of family gatherings that can cause sibling rivalry?

Coming from a family of eight children my experience is that family gatherings Cause far more friction than help. Meeting with a few family members has always been a better way than meeting with many. The few family gatherings that included extended family have caused tons of stress and had little, if any, real benefits. Even just having all the immediate family together is a cause of stress, on the kids as well as the parents. That’s not to say they can’t be fun, but that family gatherings don’t cause rivalry. For me rivalry was caused more by ourselves than our parents.
