Why are permits required?
Oregon state law requires individual jurisdictions to maintain compliance to the Oregon Residential, Structural and Specialty codes. These codes were adopted by the State of Oregon in order to ensure public safety based on proven, acceptable construction standards. Public safety items reviewed include means of emergency exiting, fire systems requirements, seismic installation requirements, requirements to ensure that structures can withstand wind, snow and other climate loads specific to the construction area as well as many other items which ensure the safety in your home as well as all buildings you work in or patronize.
