Why are some CYP2 but not CYP3 genes tested on the AmpliChip CYP450 Test?
The CYP2 and CYP3 families of genes are both considered to be of particular importance in drug metabolism, but variations in the CYP2 family (particularly CYP2D6, CYP2C9, and CYP2C19) have been shown to have a greater influence on interindividual differences in drug response. For example, although CYP3A4 enzymes are involved in metabolism of a greater number of drugs, CYP3A4 enzyme activity is more extensively affected by environmental factors such as diet and concurrent medications. CYP2D6 enzyme activity, in contrast, is more extensively influenced by inherited variations and factors such as concurrent medications.
