Why are stems important to plants?
Stems are important for plants for elevating the leaves, flowers, and fruits in order to keep them in the light and provide a place for the plant to keep it’s flowers and fruits. Stems also transport fluids between the roots and the shoots, which are needed for the plant to live. Stems store nutrients for the growth of the plant and they also produce new living tissues. As plant cells live between one to three years, stems are able to generate new living tissue annually.
