Answer Hi Ava, The songs are connected on purpose to create a piece much like a classical work. John and Paul had lots of bits and pieces of songs that in the past they might have worked to finish into standard 3 – 4 minute songs, but in this case, they put them together. They had done the same thing with A Day in the Life with two songs that were unfinished, but blended into one much better piece than either one could have been alone. Two things you may not know about the piece. First it is the only drum solo they ever recorded and Ringo did not want to do it at all – they had to all talk him into it. Second – the guitar solo at the end is not just one solo – it is THREE. John, Paul, and George each take a turn for each of the three measures. You can hear their distinctive styles if you listen for them and imagine a triangle with them just trading ‘licks’ back and forth in order. Let me know when you decide which one is which!
