Why are there softcover textbooks for the middle grades?
In 2004, Saxon Publishers created new middle grades textbooks with increased geometry and pre-algebra content as well as Investigations, which are lessons designed for higher-level thinking skills. With the added content, it became cost prohibitive to create a hardcover text, so Saxon decided to release a softcover text. The texts are not consumable and are used just as a hardcover textbook would be used.
