Why blue remembrance poppy for Canadians at Menin gate?

0

Although there are many species of poppies throughout the world, they usually come in three main colours: Traditional Red poppies are found in Northern/Western Europe, particularly France and Belgium (the original “Flander’s Fields” poem and poppy idea came from their massive slaughter of troops during the Second Battle of Ypres) Poppies that come from Wales/Southwestern England are usually Yellow Poppies that are blue from from the far east (China etc.) The Menin Gate was not constructed to specifically remember Canadians, but to commemorate the sacrifices made by men from all over the British Empire. Since the Empire extended around the world, any colour of poppy could be used to represent Imperial troops who fell in combat (during WWI, Britain had possessions on every continent of the world).
