Why build a new container terminal at Gdańsk?
Gdańsk already had unique deep water access to the Baltic, which has no tide and benefits from easy vessel access at all times. It is the eastern-most Baltic port that remains ice-free throughout the Winter. Gdańsk provides a gateway to Central and Eastern Europe for Deep-sea cargo – this represents a potential market of some 300 million people. The new terminal will benefit from onsite rail connections across Poland and its neighbouring countries. The proposed new A1 highway will offer excellent road connections from Gdańsk, across the newly constructed bridge over the river Vistula.
