Why build KLIA-East at such great cost for the exclusive use of one airline – AirAsia?

KLIA-East will be built entirely from private funds. No public funds will be utilized. AirAsia and AirAsia X need a terminal that can accommodate their combined growth in years to come. We project that by 2013 the two airlines will be ferrying a combined total of 60 million passengers. At least half that number – 30 million – will be using the new terminal. Also by 2013, AirAsia and AirAsia X would have taken delivery of 159 narrow body Airbus A-320 aircraft and 25 wide body Airbus A-330 planes – a combined total of 184 aircraft. We need a new, dedicated terminal in order to handle the huge passenger and fleet growth.
