Fair question, well sort of. Aluminum diamond plate is not exactly cheap and the weight can add up fast especially when you consider the needed thickness to be comparable to the RhinoPro flooring. A 1/8 inch thick aluminum diamond plate is the thinnest you can go with and is very brittle and can easily fracture under minor impact. Also consider that the weight of a full length 1/8″ thick aluminum diamond plate for a Discovery I weighs-in at almost 55lbs, over 23lbs more then the RhinoPro flooring which is 1/4 inch thick. Every pound counts up on the roof rack and the more the flooring weighs the more your roof rack payload suffers. Also considering the cost of fabricating and bending aluminum can add up and aluminum does not like to be bent and will not produce smooth bends. Not to mention the fact that aluminum diamond plate will rattle, tarnish, and get extremely hot under the sun.
