The truth is this… For the ps3 to play a ps1 game, it does so with an emulator. (software) For the ps3 to play a ps2 game, it needs a chip (hardware), think it was called the ’emotion engine’ or something like that, the ps3 can’t emulate the ps2 with software, as said it needs hardware to do it. As it required a chip, Sony decided that the cost of putting it into ALL ps3’s wasn’t cost effective so they ditched the idea from all consoles… Sony announced last year that they were working on some hardware to plug into your ps3’s to enable us to play ps2 games, but nothing has been heard of it for a while.
