Why cant coconut trees be hybrided?

0

Coconut tree has the scientific name Cocos nucifera. It has two main varieties -: i) Cocos nucifera, variety- typica which is taller, lives longer, up to 60 years on average; but the yield is low. ii) Cocos nucifera, variety-nana is dwarf, has shorter life span of 40 or less but yields abundant crop and begins to produce early. The two varieties are cross bred or hybridized ( Note it is not hybrided,) to produce hybrid plants . Singapore coconut is one such hybrid coconut. So get the notion out of your mind that coconuts cannot be hybridized. There are coconut research institutions devoted solely for the improvement of this extremely important cash crop.
