Why can't my PC Card (or PCMCIA) modem detect dial tone?

A. Some modems, when sampling the voltage on the LAN Modem's phone port, interpret the voltage to be that of a digital line and thus don't give dial tone. For USR / Megahertz modems, add the following command to the init string: AT~~L0.  more
