Many patients do not know, that in most states, a licensed physician may perform plastic surgery without being board-certified in plastic surgery. This means someone not trained in Plastic Surgery could be performing your surgery. A common mistake patients make, is asking the surgeon if he or she is board certified. This is a good first step, but you need to ask specifically, is he or she board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. You don't want a doctor, board certified in Dentistry, performing a facelift, or tummy tuck on you. Always ask, are you board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only one approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties. This certified plastic surgeons to perform plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body.  more

To be fellowship trained means that, in addition to his med-school training and residencies, he has had several additional years of specialized surgical training for plastic surgery and facial plastic surgery procedures.  more
