Why choose the University of South Alabamas Department of Radiology?

The Department of Radiology provides full services in RF ablation. We are one of only a few medical centers to offer ablation in lung and bone lesions. Our department has one of only a handful of active PET/CT scanners. PET/CT is one of the most sophisticated and accurate methods for visualization of cancer. This allows us to detect tumors not seen on conventional CT or MRI. We are able to use this information in our RF ablation. Without PET/CT large number of lesions could be missed, which would make the RF ablation ineffective by missing small tumors. This leads to recurrence, which was the downfall of RF ablation in the past. The PET/CT is also useful in monitoring success of treatment. PET/CT can differentiate a scar from viable tumor.
