Why Criminology studies? Is there any demand?
The Criminology studies at the UOC are being launched at a time when the new European Higher Education Area (EHEA) means we can offer this qualification as a degree. Other universities had made initial steps, and there was agreement in the scientific community linked to criminology in Spain that saw the need for studies that went beyond that which had been on offer for criminology at universities until now (unofficial or second-cycle studies). The UOC rightly felt that they should take part in this new scenario with an attractive course offering. The demand is there, and criminology has always been a popular subject. Indeed, we set a target of two hundred students, and that is the number that have enrolled. What can students expect from this degree? They will be offered a wide range of knowledge, and elements to help analyse and understand the complex reality of crime, the social reaction to crime, the criminal justice system, crime prevention, and all those practical actions that are
