Why Croquet is important?
Croquet is an open source, 3D environment for real-time collaboration. Like Second Life, it allows users to enter 3D worlds as avatars and interact with the worlds and other avatars. Unlike Second Life, it uses peer-to-peer technology instead of servers. Croquet is important because virtual reality, simulations, immersions are rapidly becoming the preferred mode of problem solving, presentation, training, education, entertainment and networking. Why freeCAD is useful to Croquet? Croquet provides the infrastructure for world creation, navigation and collaboration. But it lacks content creation tools for the worlds. Since freeCAD is a 3D CAD with Motion Simulation written in Smalltalk, it can be a major content creation tool inside Croquet. It has a solid modeling kernel for true solid representation, NURBS for complex surfacing and a multibody dynamics engine for motion simulation.
