Why did Bush tell such an outrageous lie in his State of the Union Address?
At the time support for invading Iraq was seriously wavering at home and around the world, Bush, though he knew Hussein trying to buy uranium was a lie, decided he had to use the Mushroom Cloud scare as a desperate measure to stampede the Senate and the people into supporting his illegal invasion of Iraq — invasion and detailed occupation plans Bush had already approved before 9/11, even before he was sworn in all of which Bush and Cheney had decided to do to control Iraqs oil. The Five Experts in five separate reports starting in 2001 and running throughout 2002 – each and every one told Bush there was nothing to the rumor Hussein was trying to buy uranium from Niger.
