Why did Dr. Jane cry when she saw a man kill a dragonfly?
In Reasons for Hope, Dr. Jane discusses an incident about the death of a dragonfly. When she was less than one years old, a dragonfly swooped around her and she began to cry. A person nearby hit and killed the dragonfly with his newspaper. Jane felt so guilty for causing the innocent animal’s death, that she cried all the way home. Her parents even had to call a doctor to give her medicine to calm her down.Dr. Jane tells this story because the dragonfly symbolizes Jane’s feeling about human’s cruelty to animals. Since a child, Dr. Jane has cared about animals and has fought for their behalf. She wants to spread awareness about the importance of our close relatives and al living beings.
