Why did Dr.Martin Cooper invent the cell phone?

The technology was there, it’s was not like sitting on top of a junk pile, God knows with our speed of advancements most of it does. The man is a Doctor, so with the introduction of different technologies at his high social class, he must have thought this was heaven sent, and only had to put the pieces together and make use of what we had. Good idea, just one other thing, I do wonder what more he had come up with, it’s interesting to know what other devices and possibilities an inventor can add to his creation… I’m guessing the technology became free to people, and he just put it together before anyone else had. If he did not make the cell, then another would have, the technology makes all what’s possible, obvious to those that have access to it.
