Why did Edgar Allan Poe write sad stories and poems?
I like this question, he’s one of my favorite authors. Edgar Allen Poe was diagnosed with a type of manic depression that was later determined to be bipolar disorder. It was generalized back then as being “crazy”, later found to be a specific disorder that can be dangerous if untreated. He was also know to be a drug addict, addicted to opiats (heroin, opium, stuff like that), which combined with scotch and whiskey and a messed up life, became the twisted poems and stories they force you to read in high school today. It’s funny really, if you look at the origin of all these authors they force us to memorize, you could basicaly say that literature it’s self was founded by a bunch of crazy, alchoholic, drug addicts! lol, btw, the only time I’ve needed any of that highschool literature crap was in college, nothing real life. And I’m a fire-medic.
