Maid Marrion has it right, because if there is no tree then there can be no obedience. And if there is no obedience then man is just a hedonistic creature wallowing around in his own pleasure. God told man not to eat the fruit so man could understand the joy of choosing Gods way, and choosing Gods thoughts, especially when the two come into conflict. The fruit exists so they can have something to physically obey to, not just think about, but to actually have a moment to choose God in the flesh, by their actions. Because of the fruit they can deny themselves and choose God. Don’t assume that God wasn’t enlightening man, or teaching him to reason, or helping him learn new things in the garden. God created intelligence, he knows it’s a good thing, and thats not the reason man ate the fruit. The reason he ate is because he has a moral problem: he is selfish.
