He obviously put it in there, and told them not to touch it, as a visible reminder to Adam and Eve that they were still subject to obeying their Creator, even though they could basically do whatever else they pleased in the Garden. The Bible already tells us, in James 1:13, that “…with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.” So because God does not tempt us, that obviously is not why he put the tree in the Garden. It would be “evil” on God’s part to put Adam and Eve in the Garden if he already knew full well that they would choose to misuse their free will to sin against him, bringing death and sin upon all of their descendants, including us today. Just because God has the ability to look into the future and see what is going to be made, it doesn’t mean he always chooses to use that ability.
