CNN covered the trial of Michael King who was charged with the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Denise Amber Lee. Today, the jury recommended the death penalty. During the trial, Michael King sat looking emotionless, staring blankly throughout the entire proceedings. Last week, he was found guilty; this week was his sentencing hearing. Next to come will be the actual sentencing where the judge will pronounce that Michael King has received the death penalty. Additionally, family members will have the opportunity to tell Michael King directly what his horrendous actions has cost them as a family. During the sentencing phase, defense attorneys for Michael King tried to state that a childhood accident while sledding caused brain injury, an injury that led to King’s inability to control his actions or know right from wrong. They also alleged that he had a very low IQ. An emergency hearing had been held earlier this week in an attempt to prevent prosecutor’s mental health experts from testify

A Florida jury has recommended the death penalty for a plumber who kidnapped, raped and murdered a police detective’s daughter. Michael King, 38, showed no reaction Friday afternoon as the jury’s 12-0 decision was announced in Sarasota. Jurors deliberated for nearly three hours. King was convicted a week ago of first-degree murder and related offenses in the January 17, 2008, death of Denise Lee, a 21-year-old mother of two boys.
