Why did people get married in the 19th century and who organised their marriages?
Marriage was an institution in which interpersonal relationships were acknowledged by the state or by religious authority. Marriages were organized by local churches. Actually, family of the couple used to organized weddings in the church which members the couple were. About wedding ceremony you can read on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage#Ma… It is wrong if we think that people used to get married because their reason was love. Couples got married because one of them had economic interests ( a lot of fruitful lands, fields). The situation is the same with the rulers. They got married because they had political interests.
