Mary Tudor was the eldest daughter of King Henry VIII and when see was born both her mother and father were Catholics. Mary was raised as a Catholic. When Henry decided to divorce Mary’s mother, so that he could marry Anne Boleyn, the Pope refused to grant him an annulment. So Henry split from the Catholic church and formed the Church of England. Henry raised his remaining two children, who later became Queen Elizabeth I and King Edward VI, in the Church of England faith. After the death of Henry VIII his son Edward VI reigned as the head of the Church of England, until his death at age 15. Mary Tudor claimed the throne and became Queen Mary I, as a lifelong Catholic she was deeply offended by what she saw as the heresy of both her Father and brother’s beliefs and she reinstated the Catholic religion as the the state religion. Most of the people who were burned at the stake during her reign were followers of the Church of England faith who were now branded as heretics. After the death
