people believed in witches in the 17th century because of the world was 'upside down'. the war was on, so people were putting bad things down to witchcraft. also, the witchfinders (people who searched for the witches) made people believe in them by finding 'witches', for some reason, so then there were symptoms, so people believed in them because there was PROOF of them existing.  more
