Why did Spirit Airlines stop flying from Detroit into Washington DC?

I found this article from January: Slots to open up at Washington National as Spirit drops route Spirit Airlines will end its non-stop service between Washington Reagan National and Detroit on Monday. The airline’s two landing slots at capacity-controlled Washington National will be returned to federal officials, who will likely look to redistribute the coveted flight rights to other airlines through an application process. Posted at 07:16 AM/ET, Jan 03, 2007 No mention as to why, but based on some of the other articles I saw I would guess they wanted to add flights to other cities, like Boston, and just didn’t have the capacity to maintain the flights from Detroit to DC. The Boston to DC route is probably more profitable for them. Just a guess, but it pretty much would have to be something of the kind. Sources: http://blogs.usatoday.com/sky/spirit/index.
