Why did Tenable release the Nessus 3 Scanner under a proprietary license?
A. The primary reason was, with the global adoption of Nessus into the corporate, government and consulting security toolbox, thousands of requests for support, training and commercial responses poured into Nessus.org and Tenable. Tenable chose to release the next version of Nessus under a proprietary license so that it could meet the market demand for those services, and establish training and support structures.
