Why did the aztecs sacrifice their fellow people?
The Aztecs believed that the world was created by the blood sacrifice of the gods. They performed blood sacrifices to repay mankind’s debt to the gods. It was done to show their love for the gods that created them. The people who were sacrificed were prisoners of war, but they were willing victims of the priests. It was the greatest reward a warrior could hope for. Before you dismiss this as evil or savage, remember that Communion is ceremonial partaking of the sacrifice of Christ.
Aztecs would sacrifice their people to please gods that they thought existed. Not only that, but they would perform an “early heart surgery” on the common people, and the “king and queen” would later feast on their hearts. They were very superstitious people, and would sacrifice anything or anyone just to survive themselves.
