Why did the berlin wall come down?
President Reagan stood at the wall and said, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Pressure from the Reagan Administration resulted in the Soviets doing just that. The German people were ecstatic because many of them had been cut off from family on the other side of the wall, and many were shot trying to escape from Communism to freedom in West Berlin. The wall was a hated symbol of oppression and its demise symbolized the newfound freedom of those East Germans who had lived under Communist tyranny.
