Why did the fear of Communism increase in America between 1945 and 1953?
After WW2, America’s fears concerning communism were increased for several reasons. 1) Senator Joseph McCarthy claimed that the United States government was infiltrated with communists and communist advocates. In this way he aroused public fear that America would be elimated of democracy. Many suspects were put on a “black list” and some were even denied employment. 2) The USSR (russia) was expanding its empire across Europe and America was afraid of the world becoming “red” (communist). Policies like Truman’s aid to Greece and Turkey and Western European countries were implemented.
