Why did the glorious revolution occur?
The Glorious Revolution occured because it was a relatively “bloodless” revolution in England in which King James II was overthrown by William III. This revolution took place because this king supposedly had a son but his son was so young that the could not yet rule. Because of this, the throne would have naturally gone to his daughter, Mary. This meant trouble for the nation, because Mary was Protestant, and James was a devout Catholic. The country, during this time period, was greatly troubled by the Catholic Church’s tyranny and rule within the country, as well as was troubled with Jame’s close relations with Catholic France. The people were worried that because James had a son, that a Catholic rule was going to become greatly likely, and the people did not want this to occur.
