Why did the Renaissance happen in northern italy?
The Renaissance happened in Northern Italy because of it’s economic dominance during that period. Cities such as Genoa and Venice did an enormous amount of trade in the eastern Mediterranean especially with luxuries from the east. Other cities such as Florence had economically colonized eastern France, the Lowland countries, and England. The money that merchant families accumulated funded artists works and made the Renaissance possible. The Renaissance effectively ended in Northern Italy when the Portuguese and Spanish found better routes for trade.
