Why do a lot of white americans claim irish heritage, when most of them are of german descent?
The Irish came to this country and literally had sex with anything that moved. The Irish married Germans, English, Italians, Finns, Swedes, anyone and everyone. The Germans basically stayed within German communities (mainly all of Wisconsin, for example, is German). Every white person in the United States has Celtic blood in them. Plus, it is kind of amazing that the US does not have strict close relations with Ireland. So many Irish came here that they have become sort of the Great American Success Story. Irish history is so interwoven into American history that it can be hard to separate sometimes.
