Why do catholics have a different 10 commandments than other christians?
In the original language, there are no verse and chapter markings. It’s up to the individual translator to decide how to divide the text into sections that make the most sense. The Catholic version of the Ten Commandments simply puts two sections together that relate to each other. Contrary to what some Protestants would like you to believe, we haven’t omitted the Commandment that prohibits the creation and worship of idols: that verse is combined with the one about having no other gods than the one True God. So depending on what translation you’re reading, the Ten Commandments will vary in order and division. Nothing’s been omitted — just grouped slightly differently than in most Protestant Bibles. The Ten Commandments are not actually numbered in the Bible. People just divide them up according to particular traditions. Protestants make their list based on Exodus 20. Catholics derive their count based on Deuteronomy 5, which reads slightly differently. FWIW, neither of these lists refers to itself as “the Ten Commandments”. For that, you will have to refer to Exodus 34, which is a completely different list.
LOL!! No the ten commandments is the same for Catholic Christians as they are for those in protest of Christ’s Church. There is a difference in the numbering system used which makes them appear different as does different translations. Originally the Bible was written without the numbering we have today so the numbering of things is up to the translator. Think about it, since the Catholic Church wrote the Bible and authorized it under the authority given by Christ to the Church would the Church change what was already approved from the beginning. This is an anti-Catholic tactic to make their church group look better but it only makes one appear ignorant to one studied in the Scriptures which most Catholic Christian are since it is the only true Bible Church and is founded by Christ and the apostles instead of some man thinking he can create a better church than Christ. They’re the same 10, they’re just divided differently. Roman Catholics and Lutherans include “I am the Lord your God” “You shall have no other gods before me” and “You shall not make for yourself an idol” in #1. Orthodox, Anglican, Reformed, and other Christians combine “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house” and “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife” for #10.
