A different emphasis on Christ’s death and resurrection. I’m Catholic, and we tend to focus on Christ’s great love for us, which is why He gave up His life so that we could be reconciled with God. The Crucifix reminds us of that love and sacrifice, and when we see it, we are reminded of the price He paid for us. Looking at a Crucifix is a powerful deterrent to sin. Protestants place emphasis on Christ’s resurrection, so they tend to wear and display plain crosses. They say things like, “Christ is no longer on the Cross,” so that explains why they prefer simple crosses rather than the Crucifix. I’ve yet to meet a Protestant who says that it has anything to do with not committing ‘idolatry,’ so I have a hard time believing people here who make that claim.
