Why do children need vision screenings?
Young children with vision problems often do not know that the way they see the world is not the way everyone sees it. Yet vision problems affect one in 20 preschoolers. They also affect one in four school children. Without early detection and treatment, children’s vision problems can lead to: permanent vision loss learning difficulties Only a primary eye care professional can diagnose these problems and formulate a patient specific treatment plan, but screenings help find children who need a full eye exam. Vision screenings serve as an important safety net in the nation’s healthcare system and are an effective way to identify adults at risk of eye disease and send them to eye doctors for professional care. Why are vision screenings important? Half of all blindness can be prevented. A vision screening does not replace an eye exam, but it can help identify people who are at risk for eye diseases.
