Why do creationists dismiss empirical evidence?

Creationists start with a supernatural beginning that is untestable and unprovable. They then cherry pick facts to suit their conclusion. Most of the creationist “research” is finding supposed flaws in evolution theory (ie “It’s only a theory”) the publishing it on websites rather then peer reviewed journals. Creationists live in a small, comfortable universe. They can get help from a supernatural being that is moved by prayer; the place is only a few thousand years old, and man is at the top of the pecking order. The alternative is scary.
