Why do dogs put their head out the windows of moving cars?
We’ve all seen dogs enjoying going for a ride in the car with their heads stuck out the window. They really do look so happy that the wind is blasting their face and blowing back their ears. Usually, their tongue is hanging out as well, also being blown back by the wind. The reason they do this is simply because dogs are curious animals. They like to experience the world around them as much as possible. Dogs sense things differently than us. Dogs use their noses much more. It is estimated that a dog’s sense of smell is 1,000 to 10,000 times better than that of humans. Comparatively, dogs have between 125 million to 300 million scent receptors in their nose and on the roof of their mouth, while humans have only 5 million.
