Why do farmers grow organically, if they can earn more money growing intensivly farmed food?

Organic farmers grow less but, they get more money for their produce. So the potential is there to earn more money. However recent cuts in the organic produce sale price has lead to farmers returing back to non-organic farming.

If by intensively grown food you mean mono cropping of commodity crops such as corn and beans and factory farmed animals, farmers are making less money than they ever have-it now takes around 10k acres of doing such farming in order to support a family with only one spouse doing off farm work. it used to take about 100 acres to support a family of 6 around 100 years ago. most organic farming is produce and not grains so you are comparing apples to oranges and most organic farmers can support their family on less than 500 acres (no one working off farm).

There is a bigger and bigger need for organic food b/c ppl do not like to put pesticides in their body. Organically grown fruits and vegetables are more flavorful, more nutritional and safe to eat. Also, it protects the farm workers health as they are not exposed to all the chemicals. There r so many reasons i really don’t even know where to start but hope this helps.
