Almost every music festival or conference schedules activities simultaneously, which often means choosing between two (or more) good options—not necessarily a bad or unusual thing. This year’s festival committee has chosen to have simultaneous concerts in two separate venues on Thursday evening for several reasons. We are able to involve a greater range of performers, both in numbers and diversity, as well as make use of more intimate venues. Having two concerts at the same time also allows us to sell a limited number of public tickets apart from the Festival to help fund the participation of more major artists in the Festival.
