Why do flat black objects get hotter than lighter colors?

0

This is addressed in a number of the answers on our FAQ. A black object is black because it absorbs most of the light that falls on it (light colors absorb very little light). All this absorbed light is converted into heat and therefore the black object heats up more than lighter colors.
