Why do gangster kids leave stickers and tags on their caps? Where did this trend start?
If the gangster kids knew this they’d probably quit doing it but the earliest instance I can recall of leaving the tags on a hat was with Minnie Pearl at the Grand Ole Opry, sometime in the 1940s. It was this country comedienne that wore her hat that way for 40 years. She was on Hee Haw from 1969 – 1991 with the same hat. Don’t know about the jeans. The shoes hanging on the powerlines I remember as a way to mark territory and as a means of saying good riddance. The military boys (and girls) use the good riddance part and get a kick out of leaving their shoes over particular powerlines where maybe their worst sargent lived or worked or maybe where they themselves worked. In the military there were several messages with the boots depending on its location or type of shoe left. I can’t remember them off hand.
