Why do Hindus find cows sacred?
Hindus treat cows as sacred because of their God, Vishnu’s, avatar Shiva. Hindus believe that God can appear in many forms, but in the west, this is often mistaken for Hindus worshipping idols and multiple Gods. anyway, the avatar Shiva had a bull called Nandi. A large white bull. Because the mythology of Shiva made him a hero, Nandi was also made a hero. Hindus believe that if the animal is good enough for their God, it is most certainly good enough for them. Another reason for holding the cow sacred is because of its fertility and ability to nurture. the snake (specifically the Cobra) and the bull are also held as very sacred for their traits. Elephants and monkeys are held sacred like the bull because they played parts as heroes in Hindu mythology or took the form of an avatar.
