Why do I need a pressure relief valve (prv) on my case?

The valve serves two purposes. The first is to allow your case to be watertight & airtight. The second reason is to limit the amount of “free breathing” of the case that would occur. Moisture due to condensation would accumulate and you would have a build-up of mold & mildew in the case.
