Why do (long) scripts get slower during execution?

Scripts that create a lot of messages (with the functions ScriptCreateMessage( )) tend to become slow when the number of messages is big (>100) as all the messages are displayed in a window that is refreshed periodically. Consider reducing the number of messages or redirecting the script output to a file (using the ScriptMessageOptions( ) function).
