The only reason the Weimar Republic WAS doomed to failure was because all of the major political entities throughout the country wanted specifically to destroy it and replace it with their own brand of dictatorship (Hitler was neither new nor alone in this). Weimar was actually in a better position when it started than the Empire was when it ended. Weimar was not necessarily doomed to failure for several reasons. First, the reason the economic restraints from the Versaillles Treaty were so devastating was because the Socialist Government of Germany began cheating on them almost immediately which eventually led the French to intervene in the Saar and the Ruhr. Second, in the 1920’s both American and British financiers were very intent on investing to make a successful Germany as an economic counterbalance to France, but much of the money was either wasted or stolen.
